empowermefirst - Our Scope
We make higher education accessible - against all odds!
“When you make education inaccessible you make prosperity only possible for the already prosperous.” Kaya Dlanga
Our aim is to educate alongside the countries. We are no competition to state schools but see ourselves as an additions where governments can’t reach vulnerable school dropouts. We analyse the reasons for school dropouts and reach those who fell through the school system.
We furthermore analyse the needs of the communities. Currently, we are active in Zimbabwe. The majority of vulnerable students are girls and women who dropped out of school after 8 to 10 years of education due to financial struggles, early pregnancies and other personal issues. They are keen to learn.
Zimbabwe has a rate of over 45% youths who are neither in school, training or employment. At the same time the rate of people with ICT skills is below 5%, making our students highly sought after skilled workers thanks to our focus on ICT.
Zimbabwe’s other issues are brain drain, effects of climate change, insufficient waste management. In our interdisciplinary assignments we focus on STEM and entrepreneurship.
Our projects include composting, horticulture, solid shampoos / shower products, plastic collection.
While we are developing best practices in Zimbabwe, our ultimate aim is to reach students across Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Asia and globally. While we start in English, other languages will follow.
